Catching Up and Counting Down (warning: long!)

So, we're well into August and I haven't a post to show for it!  My excuse?  It's that time of year again...back to school.  Really it's always been a favorite time of mine, what with the sharp pencils, fresh notebooks,  handwriting and organization at its best, a few days worth of outfits people haven't seen you wear yet. There's just one thing missing from this year's start...the breezy, nearly fall-like weather of the after-labor-day new school year's from my Connecticut past.  I mean really!  Triple digit heat indexes!!  And August 6thWHAT?!  I'm all about getting back into the routine (how else would you look forward to a break, right?) but it's a hard transition to make when summer is still breathing, heavily, down your neck.  Oh, and did I mention that the church's air is on the fritz?  Doesn't that constitute as an opposite snow day?  Anybody?

So yeah, other than that it's been a delight to see all my kiddos this past week!  They've all gained a tan and a few inches each and lost a tooth here and there.  My, how children change in just a matter of weeks and my, how those weeks do fly.  Last time I was on here Molly's cast change countdown was something in the teens and now we've got just a few hours left!  A lot has happened in those couple of weeks.  I'll do my best to recap now...

First of all it wasn't just me who returned to school this week.  Moll's started too and was so happy to see Miss Linda and Miss Suzy every day!  She's got one on one attention and they've been fantastic to do everything just so.  God provides and we are so blessed!
Molly turned a whopping 11 months old on August 1st!  It's whopping because it's the most months you can be before the years take over.  Single tear:(...
She and Gertie are still tight:
Stopping to talk

Taking in some Sesame Street with Gertie close at hand
And sponge baths are almost as fun as the real thing:

Molly kept reaching for and pointing to her dolls and animals one day and I kept retrieving them for her.  This was the result:

"Okay everybody, the wave on three...one, two, THREE"
Being 8 and 10 years younger than Karma and Kara, I was as much a doll as I was a sister at the beginning.  Found these pics the other day:

Recognize this tableau?

My mom and dad came in last week to watch Molls while I did various school-prep things.  And would you believe I didn't get the first picture of them!?!!!  Perhaps it was because I was away all the day while they took care of Molly Doll.  Molly had so much fun with Grandma and Granddaddy! They read heaps of books and played, played, played, brought yummy things from the garden and meals to eat.  They even kept Molly so we could go to dinner and a movie.  What a great treat and start to the new year!  Karma's girls came over for a bit one day and this pic is blurry but too cute to not share:
And courtesy of upcoming photographer Marci, here's the latest family pic:
A few more pics of Molly:
Home from church

She's starting to get that "little girl" look
I found these great butterfly mirrors with adhesive backing and had the perfect place for them:
We cut back on finger foods for awhile after Molly's cast was put on because they can be oh so messy!  Messy=stinkier cast of course.  But we've started letting her feed herself again at dinner time in the spica table where she has no access to her cast and can't smoosh avocado through the fiberglass like a sieve!  Lemme tell ya, that booster seat that I mentioned before--the First Years, On-the-Go booster I borrowed from my friend Emily?--that thing is fantastic.  (Thanks again Emily if you see this!;)  We even bought another one to keep at school cause I kept forgetting to get it off the breakfast chair this week!
The girl's only got two teeth but boy does she dig the real deal!!  Her new favorite?  Chicken.  Both to eat and as an accessory as you'll see...

This post is forever long...thanks for hanging in there:)  We must prepare for tomorrow and then get some sleep!  I'll leave you with pictures from Molly's last night in the pink cast...
By the way, BOOKS are her thing right now.  She loves them!  Especially lift-the-flap books!  As soon as you're done with one book she points to the shelf for another one.  And yes, that is me on her shirt...Maple Grove Baptist Daycare circa 1986ish.  Just one of her many vintage t-shirts:).
Molly is fast asleep to get ready for her big day tomorrow.  We have an alarm set for 5:30 so she can chug down some apple juice before the final cut off time.  Please pray that everything is super smooth and uneventful tomorrow.  We praise God for a wonderful first casting and first 6 weeks.  Goodnight!  I will update tomorrow...
