We had one fantastic time last weekend! We made the trip to Tennessee to attend a surprise birthday party sandwiched between visits with family. The surprise was genuine, the visits were meaningful, and the weather was swell! Molly, Jack and Ryan were on their best behavior, too, which doesn't hurt.
Jack got to meet his Great Grandma Dot for the first time! I fed him in Marietta and then we drove straight to Knoxville so he was pretty hungry when we arrived but as soon as he saw Grandma he gave the biggest grin as if to say, "I've been waiting my whole life to meet you!". It was oh so sweet. They hit it off!
Grandma said Jack reminded her of my Uncle Mark as a baby...long and spindly. My Uncle Mark was 6' 10" so we'll see:)! She also commented on the cowlick of hair on the right side of his head. "Jack's (my granddaddy and Jack's namesake) hair stood up in that same place", she said. Those precious tidbits are going in the baby book.
Grandma always fixes something lovely to eat. My Uncle Richard and Aunt Sylvia came to visit while we were there and got to meet Jack too. Molly really enjoyed playing "air touch" with Uncle Rick.
Meeting Aunt Syl:
And sharing some smiles:
He got pretty fussy and Sylvia rocked him right to sleep.Syl and Rick came bearing gifts and Grandma Dot read them all to an eager listener:
Soon it was time to hit the road again and get on over to Morristown for the surprise party. A few parting snuggles:
Molly has a tendency to cut her eyes over at whomever she's taking a picture with. It's one of my favorite things:)
Wouldn't you know I didn't take the first picture of our time with friends in Mo-town?! It may have had something to do with me being too wrapped up in seeing people to think about bothering to document it all. It was my dear friend Jessie's 30th and her husband, Tim, organized a surprise soiree in her honor. He schemed with his mother to have her over for a plain-Jane birthday dinner when really something like 25ish of her biggest admirers were waiting to say "we're glad you were born, Teeny". She was surprised. Like would-have-showered-and-put-on-a-bit-of-make-up-if-I'd-known surprised. And it was fun being one of the out-of-towners who came to make merry. Partly because it was fun to catch her off guard and partly because being an out-of-towner meant we got to stay in the Wayne and Carol Nichols Motel. I tell ya, being around these people all at once again was the most carefree and comfortable I've felt in awhile. We partied hardy into the late night hours just sitting on the back porch enjoying the autumnal equinox air and bustin' a gut...quite a few of them, in fact. The next morning breakfast was in order with Jessie, Tim, Judah, Crystal, Stephen and our gang and then it was back to Grandma Dot's to say our goodbyes.
This one's going in a frame!:
Mommy told her to be careful and not pick any of the flowers:
Grandma Dot said otherwise. That's what grandmas are for:)!:
Then it was off to Kara and John's house for a steak dinner and some pecan pie. Jonah and Wyatt are simply wonderful with babies (and little girls). I mean, way beyond time-of-day sweet. They both take time to say hello, make high-pitched baby talk, and if he's crying try to soothe him with a sing-songy voice. They'll be good daddies.
Meeting Uncle John for the first time. When you see John with a baby you realize where his boys got their special touch:)!
Like I said a truly wonderful, good fuzzy feeling weekend. The End.
