My Elmo Cuties

Disclaimer: This post is neither discouraging nor soliciting Elmo paraphernalia in the Lucas household.
I don't know why but even as a child I remember my taste leaning toward more nondescript, original looking toys and dolls.  I mean, I had a Rainbow Brite doll and a Cabbage Patch Kid and Pound Puppies and a Popple and all that.  I remember one of my friends had an actual full She-ra costume but I never liked it and instead stuck a rainbow umbrella down the back of my leotard to aid in my portrayal of the Princess of Power.  One Christmas I put "a plain rag doll" on my list for Santa.  I could go on, but anyway, I never thought my child would have a crazy obsession with a TV character, especially one who refers to himself in third person exclusively, but she's head over heels in love with Elmo.  And while I'm not rushing out to buy a licensed Elmo bed-in-a-bag set, I finally understand why some parents do...it makes their kids so darn happy!  Prime example (Crys, I just thought of you saying those words:)--I was in Walmart looking for a plain black t-shirt to wear with my poodle skirt at Christmas and found that they had an adult men's t-shirt starring Elmo's face and thought, "I MUST buy this!  It is imperative that Ryan have an Elmo t-shirt for Molly's sake" so I did.  Then I found a little Sesame Street book set at Kohls for next to nothing and thought "Molly will love this" so I bought it under the guise of Santa Clause because somehow it made me feel better that it was he, not I, adding to the growing number of Elmo merchandise in our home.  All this to say that I was literally thrilled when Molly opened up a gift from MiMi and Pop at Christmas that contained these:
Are they not the most darling pajamas you've ever seen?!  I couldn't wait for her to wear them and of course when she did I made Ryan go put his t-shirt on too.
 I mean come on...it's cute:
So I guess I'm just saying, never say never!  Especially when it comes to your parenting plans.  And thanks, MiMi and Pop for the beyond cute Elmo pjs!
So, let me ask...does anyone else feel this way???  Or am I a total licensed-character-merchandise snob????

  1. This post is so Ashleigh. :) For me, I guess it really depends on the character. Literary ones trump those from movies or TV (although I should probably confess my soft soft for select Disney memorabilia).

I must say, Molly Sunshine looks awfully cute in her Elmo pjs! There are worse characters she could dote on. ;) I mean, Elmo isn't so much my fave, but at least Sesame Street is pretty classic.
